How it works
Pick a random name in three steps
- 01
Add names or choices
Type or paste one entry per line. Comma-separated lists work too, with up to 100 visible wheel entries.
- 02
Customize the wheel
Choose a color theme, celebration sound, fullscreen view, and whether each winner should sit out.
- 03
Spin and use the result
Press the center button or Space. Keep the winner, remove them and spin again, or restore removed names later.
Everything included in this name wheel
Secure random selection
The browser selects the result with crypto.getRandomValues before the animation starts.
No-repeat winners
Remove each winner until everyone has been selected, then restore the full list.
Private browser storage
Names and preferences stay on this device unless you intentionally create a share link.
Fullscreen presentation
Project a large wheel for classrooms, meetings, events, streams, or family games.
Themes and celebrations
Choose a palette and optional winner sound, with reduced-motion support.
Shareable setup
Copy a link containing only the names you deliberately choose to share.
Fairness and probability
How the wheel chooses a winner
The visual spin creates suspense; it does not decide the result. The result is selected first with the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, then the wheel animates to the chosen slice.
Equal chance by default
Each visible entry occupies one slice and has the same chance per spin. Repeated names create repeated entries and increase that name’s chance.
No hidden weighting
Themes, list order, shuffle, sound, and spin animation do not change which entry is selected.
Use the right process
For regulated, high-value, or audited drawings, follow the official rules and use an approved auditable system.
Popular ways to use a random name picker
Classroom name picker
Choose a student to answer, present, lead a group, or take the next turn without calling the same person twice.
Giveaways and prize draws
Paste eligible entries, confirm the list, spin for a winner, and keep the winner history visible.
Teams and meetings
Choose who speaks first, presents next, takes notes, or owns a small task.
Games and parties
Randomize dares, characters, movie choices, songs, questions, or the next player.
Food and decisions
Turn lunch spots, recipes, activities, or weekend ideas into a quick visual decision.
Custom option wheel
Entries do not have to be names—any short choice can become a slice.
Privacy by design
Names stay private unless you share them
The list, theme, and preferences are stored locally in this browser. JustUtils does not upload the list for selection. A share link places chosen names in the URL, so review it before sending and never include confidential personal data.
Wheel of Names FAQ
Is this Wheel of Names free?
Yes. It has no account requirement, paid spins, credits, or winner limit.
Is the random name picker fair?
Each visible entry has an equal chance by default. Selection uses the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator before animation.
Can I stop the same person winning twice?
Turn on Winner sits out, then choose Remove & spin again. Restore removed names for a new round.
Can I use the wheel for students or a classroom?
Yes. Paste a class list, use fullscreen on a projector, and enable no-repeat winners so everyone can receive a turn.
Can I use choices instead of names?
Yes. Add prizes, foods, teams, tasks, numbers, questions, or other short options.
Are names uploaded or saved by JustUtils?
No. Names and settings stay in your browser. A share link contains names only when you intentionally copy it.
How many names can I add?
The wheel displays up to 100 non-empty entries. Short labels are easier to read on phones and projectors.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The layout supports touch, smaller screens, and fullscreen where the browser allows it.
